THE APPEAL TO REDUCE PLASTIC PRODUCTS IS "SAVING" THE VIETNAMESE PRINTING INDUSTRY, WHICH IS 68 YEARS OLD AND SEEMS TO BE ABOUT TO BE FORGOTTEN BY THE TECHNOLOGICAL REVOLUTION?

THE INDUSTRY'S FORGOTTEN STORY IS COMING TO AN END, AS THE DECLINE OF PRINT PUBLISHING IS BEING OFFSET BY THE PAPER PACKAGING INDUSTRY - A SUBSTITUTE FOR PLASTIC IN THE GREEN TREND.

The technological revolution brought people to an integrated utility era, which led to the birth and development of many services and industries based on digitalization. In contrast, many traditional industries are at risk of being overshadowed, for example, the printing industry has dropped sharply over time, in line with the rise of online marketing.

"In recent times, the situation of our finished products has been declining due to the development of mobile networks as well as social media", A Representative from a publishing, printing and releasing enterprise said.

THE DECLINE IN THE PUBLICATION OF FINISHED PRODUCTS IS BEING OFFSET BY THE PAPER PACKAGING INDUSTRY

However, the industry's forgotten story is coming to an end, when the decline of the printing of finished products is being offset by the production of paper packaging - plastic substitutes in the green trend.

In recent years, people's awareness of the environment has been better, especially after serious pollution cases such as Vedan factory, Formosa ... Entering 2019, from the beginning of the year until now, we have heard a lot of calls to reduce minimize plastic waste, recycle plastic, or replace plastic. Even in some advanced countries like Malaysia ... have banned plastic bags in supermarkets; In particular, Vietnam, the trend of environmental protection has also begun to appear and spread strongly, the lively message surrounding the desire that these plastic bags will gradually change to paper bags.

In that wave, big brands like Highland, Trung Nguyen Legend, 380 Flower Market & Tea House ... replaced plastic cups by paper cups, replaced plastic straws by paper straws. These are general directions to limit products that use plastic, which is also a stepping stone to bring the Vietnamese printing (packaging) industry back to life - after years of seemingly being forgotten by the digital age.

"As the socio-economic development, then certainly the demand for paper, especially packaging will grow"“, , Mrs. To My Chau - General Director of CP Paper – insisted. Besides, the US-China trade dispute has been creating many opportunities for Vietnam to access outsourcing markets for foreign countries.

However, there are still many shortcomings and challenges; next to new opportunities.

"The common concern of everyone in the printing industry at this time is how we can equip the technology, skills of training human resources as well as the necessary certificates to be able to export abroad", Mrs. Chau explained.

Overmore, when the opportunity comes with FDI enterprises jumping into direct competition with domestic companies, another question is: How to survive and compete at our locality?

To My Chau - General Director of CP Paper: "As the socio-economic development, the demand for paper, especially the packaging, will certainly grow".

Opportunities come, but how do I survive and compete at home?

“Why am I Vietnamese, they are people from other countries who can seize global opportunities - especially from American partners, while my own country does not capture them ?”, The insider asked.

Through contact with domestic enterprises, the fact shows that printing presses that want to expand exports are forced to invest heavily in gray matter, manufacturing processes and technologies; at the same time must be financially capable to procure equipment and machinery. However, most printing equipment in Vietnam today do not meet the stringent requirements of the market.

It is worth mentioning that the age regulation for imported equipment should not exceed 10 years - intangible pushing the price due to the recognition of depreciation costs - leading to less competitive Vietnamese products compared to competitors.

A product manufactured through many stages requires the right equipment, moreover the enterprise must calculate the production cost balance, the balance between quality and cost to take into account the competition and suction order.

In general, the demand returns and is increasing, but the problem now is that the printing business in the country must have access to sources of goods, to convert production capacity to meet the export standard.

Above all, for the time being, from the existing ones, though not the highest, but still ensure production to meet market demand. Recently, many parties have also proposed to related ministries to loosen the import age and age of imported printer equipment; at the same time, diversify import sources, thereby increasing production capacity, balancing input - output in order to catch up with new consumption trends.
